Abdulrazak Gurnah

Abdulrazak Gurnah is a Tanzanian-born British novelist and academic. Born in the Sultanate of Zanzibar, he moved to the United Kingdom as a refugee in the 1960s. He is an Emeritus Professor of English and Postcolonial Literatures at the University of Kent. Gurnah is the author of works including Paradise, By the Sea, and Desertion, and he was awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature for his exploration of colonialism and the refugee experience.
