Bertolt Brecht

Bertolt Brecht was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet who rose to prominence during the Weimar Republic. After moving to Berlin in 1924, he co-authored The Threepenny Opera and established himself as a leading theoretician of epic theatre and the Verfremdungseffekt. His career was defined by a lifelong interest in Marxist thought and frequent collaborations with figures such as Hanns Eisler and Kurt Weill.
