James R. Mellow

James R. Mellow was an American art critic and biographer. He began his career in the mid-1950s, holding editorial roles at Arts Magazine and Industrial Design throughout the 1960s. Between the mid-1960s and mid-1970s, he contributed criticism to The New Leader, Art International, and The New York Times. In 1974, he expanded his professional focus to biography with the publication of a book on Gertrude Stein.
