Kobo Abe

Kōbō Abe was a Japanese writer, playwright, and director known for his modernist sensibilities and surreal explorations of individuals in contemporary society. His 1962 novel, The Woman in the Dunes, was adapted into an award-winning film in 1964. Often compared to Franz Kafka for his nightmarish narrative style, Abe remained a prominent figure in literature until his death in Tokyo at the age of 68.
