Max Beckmann
Max Beckmann was a German painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor, and writer. Although often associated with Expressionism and the New Objectivity, he rejected these classifications. His work evolved from moody, atmospheric compositions to explicit, distorted imagery characterized by brutal realism and social criticism, particularly during the rise of Nazism in Germany.
