London: Dennis Dobson Ltd, 1949. First British edition. Hardcover, 279pp., 9 x 6 inches. Very Good. Yellowing to pages, else Near Fine in a Near Fine dust jacket. A collection of essays by Sergei Eisenstein written between 1928 and 1945 describing his ideas and theories of the sound-film medium. As he was too weak in his last two years of life to resume film work, the book represents one of Eisenstein's last tasks. His fatal attack, on the night of February 10, 1948, interrupted him at work; when he was found the next morning, before him were his last words - an unfinished essay on color, its use in the unfinished Ivan the Terrible.
