Based on the life of Ejnar Mikkelsen (1880–1971), a Danish polar explorer, captain, and coloniser in Kalaallit Nunaat, otherwise known as Greenland, who contributed to the “collective memory and dominant history of Nordic colonialism.” Designed and edited by Gudrun Havsteen-Mikkelsen, the great-granddaughter of the explorer, in collaboration with designer Anna Bierler, this book challenges the colonial narratives surrounding the Netflix film ‘Against the Ice’ about her grandfather. With this project, the author fights for cultural and historical inclusion, broadening the storytelling by combining visual and textual contributions, archival material, dialogues, and controversies.
